The Lowdown On Test Anxiety

The sources of test anxiety and task avoidance are unique and can be incredibly complex. From my experience, I have observed certain trends among students who struggle with executive functioning. I've noticed that this is not necessarily due to a lack of comprehension of the course material, but rather a fear of failure and uncertainty about how to gain competency in the subject matter. Past negative feedback and low self-esteem often contribute to anxiety and avoidance. The stress of being different from peers, years of academic struggles, and frustration from authority figures can compound and lead to a cycle of poor performance and avoidance. We have found that students benefit from support in studying, managing anxiety, and celebrating their successes.

Regular Executive Functioning Sessions

Executive Functioning is a set of cognitive skills that are responsible for organizing, planning, and executing tasks. These skills are essential for success in school and in life. Regular sessions dedicated to Executive Functioning help students maintain the strategies that will help them succeed in school and reduce stress. By focusing on these skills, students can learn to manage their time and workload effectively, prioritize their tasks, and develop the ability to think critically and creatively. With regular practice, students can improve their Executive Functioning skills, helping them to be more successful in school and beyond.
